Coconut Shell Biochar
Biochar is a fantastic soil additive – when added to soil it enhances water holding capacity, and can increase the nutrient retention capability of your soil. This means that it can reduce the need for watering your garden plants and reduce irrigation requirements for your crops. As a result, it can also potentially reduce your need for fertilisers.
This biochar is made from coconut shell charcoal carbonisation process. It is the ultra fine particles that are gathered through the screening process. Fine enough for the worms to eat and to to spread as a top dressing and watered in. Won’t take long for the microbes, water and nutrient to permeate it pores. With an already immaculate surface area, electromagnetic charge and 80% carbon content, you will notice the difference when improving your soil.
Our pure powder biochar with around 80-100 microns, excellent as plant derived soil conditioner, high pH, high in boron and mineral ash with a medium range carbon content of 65%. Very high cation exchange capacity and enhanced surface are due its particle size and magnetic qualities. When mixed with soil, it increases water and nutrient holding capacity and provides a beneficial homes for microbes, ensuring your plants thrive. Can be applied by watering can or sprayers with larger nozzles to avoid blocking.
Boron is the most common plant deficiency. Some of the crops with higher boron requirements are turnips, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, brussels sprouts, apples, pears, grapes, macadamias and avocados. The beauty of Powder biochar is that it can be suspended in liquid and applied with a watering can or sprayer with larger nozzles to avoid blocking. What doesn’t get taken up via the leaves will wash off and enter the soil where the biological life & worms will eat and excrete (activation). Also great to add to compost, teas and as a turf underlay or topdress. Add to potting mix too! Recommended rate is 200g per sqm so a little bit goes a long way!
It was found that coconut shell biochar was very effective in retaining nitrogen compared to rice husk biochar (RHB).
